Okay, so I have a PC and received a jpeg which was created on a mac and am unable to open it. When I try to open it, Photoshop just says 'Failed to load photo.' I've tried opening it with other programs and was wondering what I should do.
Rightclick (ctl+click) on the picture.jpg.xml file in the mac, then choose getinfo, in the name field remove the.xml so that it becomes picture.jpg. Now you can open it by clicking on it. Batch change the names by removing the.xml.

What is a JPEG file?
A JPEG file is an image saved in a compressed graphic format standardized by the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG). It supports up to 24-bit color and is compressed using lossy compression, which may noticeably reduce the image quality if high amounts of compression are used. JPEG files are commonly used for storing digital photos and web graphics.
In the early 1980s, no technology existed that allowed users to easily compress and share digital images with one another. In 1982, the JPEG workgroup began designing a compression standard that could be used to reduce image files' size, making them easier to share, while retaining as much of their quality as possible.
In 1992, the workgroup created the JPEG file format. JPEG files are images created using a lossy compression algorithm, which actually destroys some data contained within the original image file. However, this data loss is mostly unnoticeable to the human eye. Because the JPEG standard continues to allows users to produce sharable, high-quality image files, and because it is so embedded within technologies used to create and share images, it is still the most common image compression standard in use today. https://europeanever690.weebly.com/blog/mac-mail-android-app.

There's no such thing as a 'Mac jpeg'. They're the same on Mac or Windows. Is the file missing the file extension (.jpg or .jpeg)? Could you have the sender zip it up before sending it? Sometimes files can get corrupted in transit; zipping them up can protect them. Can you open it on a different Windows PC? Sometimes there's something weird about one Windows system. For instance, my sister made her website on a Mac, and it works fine for everyone, Windows and Mac, except for my mom's Windows PC. When she goes to the site, she can't see any images or video at all. But it works just fine for other Windows users.
